  • ³µÍס§ The applications of sensors have increased tremendously over time and there is an augmented demand for making sensor data and services available on the web. Web enabled sensors have potential for application in wide ranging areas of science, environmental monitoring, transportation management, public safety, disaster management, utilities' SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), industrial controls, and facilities management needs. Sensor Asia is a new initiative to deploy high density real time sensor network using fieldservers in Asia in order to acquire various information on food, agriculture and environment. The information from the network will contribute to food security, food traceability and various environmental issues in Asia. A system of web accessible sensor networks and archived sensor data can be maintained, discovered, and accessed using standard protocols and application program interfaces (APIs). This initiative is called the Sensor Web enablement (SWE) and it envisions to make all sensors and repositories of sensor data discoverable, accessible and where applicable controllable via the Web. Moreover, the initiative is developing GIS-Sensor integration system as an infrastructure to realize easy and low cost installation and operation of the fieldserver network.
